RoDTEP, the Remission of Duties and Taxes on Exported Products scheme, refunds certain central, state and local taxes that exporters cannot otherwise recover. If you search for RoDTEP tiles or an export incentive for tiles from India, the key point is that it benefits the exporter and can influence the quote, but it does not change the duty you pay at your border.
Your import duty depends on your country's tariff, the HS code and any trade agreement. It is unrelated to what India refunds the factory.
What is the status of RoDTEP?
As of October 2026, Indian government announcements reported that the scheme was extended up to 31 December 2026, with existing rates and value caps unchanged. The extension was reported by All India Radio. The scheme has been extended in short steps before, so its future after that date is not guaranteed.
I could not confirm the tile-specific rate or cap. Those sit in published tables by tariff line, so the factory or an Indian customs agent can look up the position for a given product.
Why does it matter to a buyer?
A factory that expects to claim an incentive may build it into its quote, and a factory that is unsure may leave it out. Two quotes that look different can differ partly because of how each treats the incentive.
Uncertainty about the scheme also makes some factories shorten the validity of their quotes or ask for the right to adjust if the scheme changes. Ask directly whether the quote assumes the incentive and what happens if it ends.
How do you ask for a clean quote?
A clean quote lets you compare plants on the same basis. Ask each factory to confirm these points in writing:
- Whether the quoted price already includes any export incentive, or whether the factory keeps that separate.
- How long the quote stays valid, and whether it can change if government schemes change.
- That the specification, grade, packing and price term are the same as in other quotes you are comparing.
- Who bears any change in cost between quote and shipment, and under what conditions.

What should you not do?
Do not ask the factory to pass the incentive on to you as a separate payment or to alter the invoice. Invoices must show the real transaction. Do not accept a quote whose logic depends on an incentive nobody has confirmed.
The incentive has no effect on your customs declaration. Your documents still need the correct HS code, origin and values, as described in documents needed for tile exports from India.
Is it worth tracking?
Yes, but keep it in proportion. You do not need to follow the scheme in detail. You do need to know whether a quote depends on it, and what happens if the rate or the scheme changes between the quote and the shipment. A line in the purchase contract that fixes the price for an agreed period removes most of the uncertainty.
