Home textile products you can source from Gujarat, India

Gujarat supplies bedding, curtains, cushions, table and kitchen linen and Kutch craft pieces; here is what to source and what to check first.

Gujarat can supply almost every woven home textile category that an overseas retailer or brand would list: bedsheets and sheet sets, fitted sheets, duvet covers, pillow cases, quilts and comforters, curtains and curtain fabric, cushion covers, table linen, kitchen textiles and throws. Ahmedabad and Surat are the main manufacturing centres, and Kutch adds block-printed and hand-embroidered pieces for the decorative end of a range.

The state has an unusually complete supply chain. Spinning, weaving, processing, printing and stitching are usually within a few hours of each other by road, and the ports of Mundra, Kandla (Deendayal), Pipavav and Hazira are all on the same coast. For a buyer this means shorter lead times and a product that can be traced through two or three units rather than six.

Bedding and bed linen

  • Flat sheets and sheet sets in plain, printed and yarn-dyed cotton, usually percale or sateen, with cotton polyester blends for budget lines.
  • Fitted sheets with corner or all-round elastic, made to the pocket depth the buyer specifies.
  • Duvet covers with button, zip or envelope closure, and matching pillow cases in standard, Oxford and housewife styles.
  • Quilts and comforters, either machine quilted in Ahmedabad units or hand quilted in smaller workshops.
  • Mattress protectors and bedspreads, often offered by the same stitching units as an add-on line.

Curtains, cushions, table linen and Kutch craft

Surat is known for polyester and blended furnishing fabrics, including jacquards, velvets and sheer voiles, and many units there will cut and stitch finished curtains with headings, linings and blackout coatings. Ahmedabad units tend to work in cotton and cotton blends and are stronger on printed curtain fabric and cushion covers.

Table linen and kitchen textiles are a steady category. Tablecloths, runners, napkins, placemats, tea towels, oven gloves and aprons are usually made in cotton or cotton blends, often by units that also produce bedding, so a buyer can consolidate several product lines with one supplier.

Kutch produces hand block-printed fabric, mirror work and hand embroidery that is used for cushion covers, throws, bedspreads and wall hangings. These pieces are made by artisan groups and small workshops rather than factories, so minimum order quantities (MOQ) are lower but consistency between pieces is looser and lead times are longer. They work well as a feature range alongside a machine-made core collection.

What to check before you commit

Ask whether the supplier weaves its own fabric or buys greige and finishes it, because that decides how much control it has over shade, weight and shrinkage. Ask for certifications such as OEKO-TEX Standard 100 or GOTS if your market expects them, and confirm that the certificate scope actually covers the product you are buying. Visit, or have someone visit, the stitching unit where your order will actually be made rather than the showroom.

How we help

We visit the mills and stitching units in Ahmedabad, Surat and Kutch, audit them, and send sealed samples to an NABL-accredited lab so you know what you are buying. We check measurements and packing before loading and supervise the loading itself, with weekly updates along the way. You get one approved supplier plus one backup, and a free 20-minute sourcing review is the easiest place to start.
