Import duty on Indian imitation jewellery depends on the full tariff code in your country, any trade agreement or special measures in force, and the customs value. The reliable way to find the rate is to look up the code in your country's official tariff on the day you plan to ship, because rates can change at short notice.
We do not quote rates here on purpose. They have changed sharply in recent years, and an out-of-date figure is worse than none.
Where to look
- United States: the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS), published by the US government. Check chapter 71, heading 7117, and any additional duties listed for goods from India.
- United Kingdom: the UK Trade Tariff online tool. Search for commodity code 7117 and select India as the country of origin.
- European Union: TARIC, the EU's integrated tariff database. Enter the code and India as origin to see the duty and any measures.
The US in particular
US tariffs on goods from India changed sharply in 2025, with additional duties layered on top of the normal tariff rate. These measures have shifted more than once, so check the current position at the time of each order, not only when you first plan the range.
The US also suspended de minimis duty-free entry for low-value shipments in August 2025. Courier parcels that once entered duty-free below a value threshold now face duty, so include duty in your landed cost even for small orders.
Other costs at the border
- Import VAT or sales tax, charged in the UK and EU on the value plus duty and freight.
- Customs broker and courier handling fees.
- Any additional duties or measures listed against the code for goods from India.
Trade agreements
India has signed trade agreements with several countries, and some have been signed but not yet brought into force. A preferential rate applies only once an agreement is in force and only if you hold the right proof of origin. Check the current status with your broker before relying on a lower rate.
To understand the full cost per piece, see how to compare quotes from different Rajkot makers.
Include the duty in your price list from the start. Retailers and marketplaces work on fixed margins, and a duty change that you did not plan for comes straight out of your profit. Recalculating landed cost per piece each season, with the duty checked on the day, keeps prices and margins realistic.
What this means for a buyer
