A reorder plan for bestselling jewellery sets a reorder point for each design: the stock level at which you place the next order, calculated from your weekly sales and the full time it takes to replenish from Rajkot, plus safety stock. Running out of a bestseller costs more in lost sales and marketplace ranking than holding a few extra weeks of stock.
The plan only works if you track sales by design and keep the maker ready to repeat quickly.
The basic calculation
Reorder point = average weekly sales × replenishment time in weeks + safety stock.
Replenishment time is everything from placing the order to stock being sellable: production (typically three to five weeks for a repeat), inspection, shipping, clearance and your own receiving. Safety stock covers sales spikes and delays; a few weeks of sales is a common starting point, more for designs that sell unevenly.
For example, a design selling 50 pieces a week with a ten-week replenishment time and three weeks of safety stock has a reorder point of 650 pieces. The numbers are illustrative; use your own.
Sorting the range
- Core bestsellers: steady sellers you never want out of stock. Reorder by the formula and consider a yearly volume agreement.
- Seasonal sellers: designs that sell around festivals or holidays. Plan them on your seasonal calendar instead.
- Tests and slow sellers: reorder only on clear evidence; otherwise let them sell out.
Keep repeats fast
- Keep sealed counter-samples of every bestseller so repeats are matched without fresh approval.
- Make sure moulds and dies for your designs are stored and maintained; see who owns a jewellery mould.
- Hold a stock of packaging, tags and cards in Rajkot.
- Share a rolling forecast with the maker so metal and stones can be bought ahead.
- Fix the price for repeats for a period, with an agreed adjustment if brass or copper prices move sharply.
Review it regularly
Recalculate reorder points every month or quarter from actual sales. Watch return reasons too: a bestseller with rising returns for plating or broken clasps needs a quality fix before the next repeat, not just more stock.
What this means for a buyer
Treat your top designs as a supply line, not a series of one-off orders. Creston & Co works for buyers only, for a fixed fee agreed in writing. We keep your counter-samples, place and follow repeats with Rajkot makers and check each repeat against the approved standard. Ask for a free sourcing review.
