You can source almost the full vitreous china range from Gujarat: one-piece and two-piece WCs, wall-hung and back-to-wall pans, wash basins in several formats, urinals, bidets and squatting pans. Seats, cisterns for wall-hung pans and fittings are usually bought in by the factory and supplied with the ceramics.
What you cannot assume is that every plant makes every item. Most plants are strong in a few product groups and buy the rest from neighbours. Ask for the list of models cast in-house.
Water closets
- One-piece WCs, where bowl and cistern are cast as a single piece. See one-piece vs two-piece toilets.
- Two-piece or close-coupled WCs, where a separate cistern bolts onto the pan.
- Wall-hung pans that fix to an in-wall frame with a concealed cistern.
- Back-to-wall and floor-mounted pans used with a concealed or separate cistern.
- Rimless versions of several of these, and washdown or siphonic flushing designs.
- S-trap (floor outlet) and P-trap (wall outlet) versions for different drainage layouts.
Basins and other pieces
- Wall-hung wash basins, with or without a pedestal or half-pedestal.
- Table-top (vessel) basins that sit on a counter, and under-counter or semi-recessed basins. The terms are explained in table-top, counter-top and pedestal basins.
- Urinals, both wall-hung and stall types, for commercial projects.
- Bidets, mainly for markets where they are common.
- Squatting pans (Indian and Orissa styles) for South Asian, Middle Eastern and African markets.
- Accessories such as ceramic soap dishes and shelves at some plants.
Finishes and options
White glossy glaze is the standard. Many plants also offer ivory, matt finishes and a limited range of colours, usually with a higher minimum per colour. Sanitaryware glaze finishes covers what each option means for consistency and cleaning.
Seats come in different materials and with or without soft-close hinges. For one-piece WCs, the flush mechanism is part of the product, so its type and certification matter as much as the ceramic.
What to check for each group
Match each product to your market's standard before you choose models. In the US and Canada, WCs need certification to ASME A112.19.2/CSA B45.1. In Europe, WC pans fall under EN 997 and basins under EN 14688. Other markets have their own schemes.
Next, check fit. Outlet type, rough-in or set-out distance, fixing positions and seat hole spacing must suit your installers. A good-looking WC that does not fit local drainage will not sell.
Finally, ask for test reports for the exact model, not the factory in general. Flush performance, load and water absorption are model-specific, as covered in how sanitaryware is tested.
Next step
A short list of the right models for your market is the starting point. We match your product list to plants that cast those items in-house, check samples and documents, and supervise production and loading. To start, book a free sourcing review.
