How many tiles are in one box for each size?

Common Morbi packing is four 600x600 tiles, two 600x1200 tiles or three 800x800 tiles per box. Counts vary by thickness and factory, so always check the packing list.

The number of tiles per box depends on the size, the thickness and the factory's packing standard. Morbi factories commonly pack floor tiles so that each box holds a convenient area, often 1.44 m² for 600 mm based sizes.

The figures below are typical, not fixed. Two factories can pack the same size differently, so always ask for the packing list before you compare quotes.

Common floor tile packing

  • 300x300 mm floor tiles are often packed around 10 or 11 per box, giving roughly 0.9 to 1 m².
  • 400x400 mm tiles are often packed 5 or 6 per box, giving roughly 0.8 to 1 m².
  • 600x600 mm tiles are commonly packed 4 per box, giving 1.44 m².
  • 600x1200 mm tiles are commonly packed 2 per box, giving 1.44 m².
  • 800x800 mm tiles are commonly packed 3 per box, giving 1.92 m².
  • 800x1600 mm tiles are commonly packed 2 per box, giving 2.56 m².
  • Wood-look planks such as 200x1200 mm are often packed 5 or 6 per box, giving 1.2 to 1.44 m².

Wall tiles vary more. A 300x600 wall tile, for example, may be packed 5 to 8 per box, depending on thickness and the factory. Ask for the figure for each design, not just each size.

Why the count changes

Box weight is the main limit. A box needs to be light enough for one person to lift and strong enough to stack on a pallet. Thicker tiles mean fewer tiles per box.

Large formats also need stronger boxes and edge protection. Slabs larger than 800x1600 mm are usually shipped in crates or on A-frames rather than in boxes.

Work size matters too. A tile sold as 600x600 may measure slightly less, so the true area per box can be a little below the nominal figure. The naming is explained in what 600x600, 600x1200 and 800x800 mean.

Why it matters to you

  • Your customers buy by the box, so the area per box decides how many boxes a room needs.
  • Prices are often quoted per square metre but sold per box, so a smaller box area raises the real cost per box.
  • Box count and weight decide how many square metres fit in a container.
  • Private label boxes must be printed to the right size and count.
  • Box markings for shade, calibre and batch are only useful if each box holds tiles from one batch.

Area per box also feeds into your container plan. Read how many square metres fit in a 20 ft container for the method.

What to ask the factory

  • Ask for the pieces per box, square metres per box and box weight for each size and design.
  • Ask for boxes per pallet and pallet weight.
  • Ask whether the count changes between grades or finishes.
  • Check a few boxes at loading to confirm the count matches the packing list.
