The price of a genset from India is set by the engine, the alternator, the canopy and base frame, the control panel and the testing. We do not publish a genset price list, because the same kVA rating can be built in very different ways.
A real quote comes from a sourcing review against your specification. This article shows what drives the number, so you can compare quotes properly.
How much does the engine decide?
The engine is the largest single part. Its make, emission level, cooling type and the rating basis all matter. A genset with a well-known engine and parts network is built differently from one with a local engine. Our guide to what decides the price of diesel engines explains the engine side.
Watch the rating. A set sold as 30 kVA standby may be a 25 kVA prime set. Always compare on the same basis.
What does the alternator add?
The alternator affects the voltage quality, the motor-starting ability and the life of the set. Copper content, insulation class and winding design all vary. Read alternators in Indian gensets for the options.
An under-sized alternator can be cheaper but may struggle with motor starts. Ask for the alternator data sheet, including the starting kVA it can support.
How do canopy and controller change the quote?
A silent canopy adds sheet metal, sound insulation, a muffler and a paint finish. The thickness of the steel and the quality of the paint change both cost and life. See genset specification for how to describe the canopy.
The controller can be a basic panel or an auto-start unit with remote monitoring and mains-failure logic. Add-ons such as an auto changeover switch, a larger fuel tank, or a battery charger move the number too.
Ask what protection the controller provides. Low oil pressure, high coolant temperature, overspeed and overload trips protect the engine, and a set without them can cost less but is easier to damage. Check that the trips are on the quote.
What other costs sit behind the quote?
Compare these items across quotes:
Ask each supplier for the exact engine and alternator model, not just the make. Within one make, a heavy-duty engine and a lighter-duty one can both be offered at the same kVA, with different prices and different lives. A written data sheet for each is the only way to compare. Ask also whether the quote includes a first fill of oil and coolant, the battery, and a set of filters. Small items add up when missing from one quote and present in another.
- The test: a load bank test report for every set, or only a basic run.
- The documents, such as noise labelling and conformity papers for your market.
- Packing and loading, since sets need secure fixing inside a container.
- Spares, tools and a manual in your language.
- Warranty terms and how claims are handled.
- Steel and copper markets, which move over time, and the validity period of the quote.
