One gram gold jewellery price depends on the plating and the making, not on a gold rate. The piece has a base metal core with a very thin gold layer, so the gold content is tiny. Silver jewellery price per gram is the opposite: it starts from the silver metal rate and adds making charges.
That difference decides how you should read each quote. We give no live rates or prices here, since both change and depend on your design.
How is one gram gold jewellery priced?
One-gram gold pieces are base metal, usually brass or copper alloy, with a very thin gold plating layer. The name is a trade term, not a standard, and what it means in grams or microns varies by maker. See what one-gram gold jewellery is.
Because the gold content is so small, the quote is built from three things. The first is the base metal weight and the design. The second is the plating, meaning its type and thickness. The third is making labour, including stone setting and finishing.
Thicker plating costs more and lasts longer. Plating thickness and cost explains the trade-off.
Ask for the plating thickness in microns rather than accepting the phrase "one gram" at face value. A piece sold as one-gram gold may carry a layer measured in fractions of a micron, while another carries several times that, and the two will look the same on day one. The thicker layer wears more slowly, which is why it costs more. A reliable workshop can state the thickness it applies and show you how it checks it. If it cannot, treat the quote as a guess. Plating thickness is checked by XRF or cross-section, as set out in how plating thickness is tested.
How is silver jewellery priced per gram?
Real silver is sold on weight. The maker takes the silver metal rate for the day, applies it to the weight of the piece at the stated purity, and adds making charges. For 92.5 sterling silver, that purity means 92.5% silver by weight.
Making charges vary with the design. A plain chain needs far less work than a stone-set pendant, so the making share of the total changes widely from piece to piece.
Check whether the maker will actually produce it. 925 sterling silver jewellery in Rajkot covers who does this and what to ask for.
Why do silver quotes move more than gold-plated ones?
Because silver metal is a large part of a silver piece, any rise or fall in the metal rate moves the quote directly. A gold-plated piece barely feels the gold rate, since gold is such a small share, though it feels the base metal price.
For silver, agree how the rate is fixed. Common options are the rate on the day of the quote, the day of order confirmation, or the day of dispatch. Each shifts the risk differently, so settle it in writing.
What should you ask before comparing quotes?
These questions make a one-gram gold quote comparable with another, and a silver quote comparable with a silver quote:
- What is the plating thickness in microns, and what is the base metal?
- For silver, what is the stated purity, and will it be hallmarked or tested?
- Is the price per piece, per gram or per dozen, and what weight does it assume?
- Which fittings, stones and packaging are included?
