What decides the price of polyester and satin fabric in Surat

Polyester and satin fabric prices in Surat depend on denier, weave, weight, dyeing or printing and volume. Here is how to specify and compare quotes.

The price of polyester fabric in Surat is decided by the yarn, the weave, the weight, the dyeing or printing process and how many metres you order in each design. The price of satin fabric per metre varies for the same reason, and by quality more than by name. We do not give figures. A real quote needs your specification.

Surat is India's centre for synthetic fabric, as explained in why Surat is the synthetic fabric centre. That scale gives you many suppliers, and it also means very different quality at similar-looking prices.

Yarn and fabric weight

Polyester yarn comes from petrochemical feedstock, so the price follows the oil and polymer markets. Finer or special yarns, such as microfibre or textured types, cost more. See polyester denier and filament counts for what the numbers mean.

Weight decides how much yarn goes into a metre. A satin of 80 grams per square metre and one of 120 are different products, even if both are sold as satin. Satin fabric weaves and weights shows the usual ranges and the weave structure.

Dyeing, printing and finishing

Plain dyed fabric is the least costly. Printing adds cost, and the method changes it. Rotary, digital and sublimation printing have different setup costs and suit different order sizes. Rotary versus digital fabric printing explains the trade-off.

Finishing adds more. Examples include softeners, anti-static, water-repellent and heat-setting. Each is a further process in the mill, and each should be written into the specification if you need it.

What else moves the quote?

Check each of these when two quotes differ:

  • The fabric width. A narrower fabric costs less per metre but gives less usable area.
  • The grade. Fabrics are often sold as first quality or with a share of seconds, and the mix changes the price.
  • Minimum order per design and per colour. Smaller runs carry more setup cost per metre.
  • Packing, such as rolls or folded thaan, and the export documents. See synthetic fabric packing in rolls and thaan.
  • Payment terms and the validity of the quote.

How to compare Surat quotes

Surat has many market traders as well as mills. A trader may quote lower because the fabric is a stock lot or a second-grade batch. A mill can repeat the same fabric and shade, and a trader often cannot. Surat market goods versus mill-direct fabric sets out the difference.

Mills also quote differently for the same polyester fabric depending on whether they weave it themselves or buy grey cloth from another unit and only dye it. Ask which processes the quoting company runs on its own premises. Send the same swatch and the same written spec to each source. Ask for a pre-production sample from the actual loom and dye house, and measure its weight and width before you accept the quote as comparable.
