Sesame seeds price per ton and groundnut price per ton FOB India are set by the crop, the quality grade and the world oilseed market, then built up with processing, testing and loading. This page gives no figures, because both move frequently. It explains how a quote is built so you can compare offers fairly.
Oilseeds are traded commodities. Their prices are influenced by markets outside the buyer's control, and a supplier can only fix an offer for a short time.
What sets the base price of oilseeds?
The base is the market rate for the raw crop. It depends on the size of the harvest, the stocks held, demand from crushers and food makers, and prices of competing oils. What sets oilseed prices in India explains the drivers.
Futures and policy matter too. How oilseed futures affect contracts covers why a supplier may reprice quickly.
How does quality change the quote?
For sesame, the grade is natural or hulled, the purity and the colour. Hulled seed with a high purity needs sorting equipment and loses material, so it costs more than natural. For groundnuts, the count, the variety and the aflatoxin result decide the price.
See hulled sesame 99.95% and peanut counts explained for the figures. Sorting, shelling and blanching all add cost.
How is a FOB quote built?
A FOB quote runs from the supplier's gate to the point where the goods are loaded on the vessel. These are its layers:
- The raw crop, adjusted for the yield after cleaning and sorting.
- Processing, such as hulling, shelling, blanching or colour sorting.
- Testing for aflatoxin, Salmonella, residues and moisture.
- Packing, container loading, port charges and export documents.
- The supplier's margin and any financing cost for your payment terms.
How do you compare two quotes?
Put both on the same specification, quantity, shipment month and basis. If one is much lower, check the grade, the aflatoxin plan and the packing before you assume it is cheaper. Ask each plant how long the offer is valid. FOB, CIF or DAP clarifies what is and is not included.
What risks sit behind a low quote?
With oilseeds, a low offer can hide a weak aflatoxin or Salmonella plan, thin packing, or a looser grade. These problems appear at the port of arrival, where the cost of a rejection is far higher than any saving. Ask each supplier for its sampling plan and for a recent test report before you compare totals.
Why does timing matter for a FOB offer?
Both crops are harvested in a fixed window, and the best-quality new-crop lots are available for a limited time. Offers for shipment months away are often based on expected supply, and they can be revised if the crop disappoints. Ask whether the plant already holds the goods or is offering against a purchase it has not yet made.
For a large or repeat order, a contract with set quantities and shipment months, agreed with a clear way to settle the price, is more reliable than a string of one-off spot deals.
