The price of a one-piece WC from India is set mainly by how hard it is to make well. A large, complex casting with a siphonic trap loses more pieces in firing than a simple washdown model, and the factory prices those losses in.
On top of that come the fittings inside the cistern, the seat cover, the glaze, the certification the model carries, the packing and the size of your order. Fuel cost moves the whole price list up or down.
The ceramic body
A one-piece WC combines the bowl and cistern in one casting. It uses more clay than a two-piece model and needs more care in drying and firing. Our comparison of one-piece and two-piece WCs explains the design difference.
The key cost is yield. Every piece that cracks, warps or shows glaze defects in the kiln is lost or must be refired. Larger and more complex shapes have lower yields. A skirted design that hides the trap behind a smooth side wall is harder to cast than an open-trap model.
The flushing system
- Washdown models have a simpler trapway and are usually easier to make.
- Siphonic models need a longer, more precise trapway, which raises casting difficulty.
- Rimless bowls need accurate water distribution, so the factory must test flush performance more closely.
- Lower flush volumes need a well-designed bowl and trap to pass the performance tests, which adds development and testing.
Fittings and seat cover
Most Indian factories buy flush valves, fill valves and seat covers from specialist suppliers. The choice of fitting can move the price more than the ceramic does. A certified dual-flush valve and a soft-close seat cover cost more than a basic set, and they are what most export markets expect.
Ask every factory to name the fitting specification in its quote, so you compare like with like. Our article on sanitaryware fittings, cisterns and valves explains the options.
Glaze, finish and certification
- Standard white is the cheapest finish because it runs every day.
- Coloured and matt glazes need separate runs and tighter shade control.
- Special coatings that help the glaze stay clean add a process step.
- A model tested and certified for your market carries the cost of testing and listing.
Packing, volume and fuel
Export cartons with foam or moulded inserts cost more than basic packing, but they cut breakage. Larger and repeat orders get better pricing because the factory can plan casting runs.
Fuel matters too. Sanitaryware kilns in Gujarat use the same gas and propane supply as tile kilns, so fuel price changes affect quotes in the same way. Our guide on gas prices and Morbi costs explains the link. As with tiles, expect quotes to carry a validity date.
