Packaging machinery in India is built by hundreds of makers, and Ahmedabad is one of the places where buyers find packaging machinery makers close together. Machines for food brands are among the most common exports, so expect pouch, filling, sealing and cartoning lines to be on offer.
The question is not whether a machine exists but whether it fills accurately at your speed with your film and product. Ask for proof on your own material.
Which machines can you source?
Pouch, FFS and cartoning machines describes the main groups. The VFFS machine explains the vertical form-fill-seal type used for powders, granules and snacks. Other lines include auger fillers, weighers, bottle fillers, shrink wrappers and case packers.
Ahmedabad is home to many machine builders in industrial estates in and around the city. Check each firm's own workshop rather than relying on a showroom address.
What matters for packaging machines for food brands?
A food machine needs clean design and consistent output. Cover these points in the specification:
- The product type, bulk density and flow behaviour, since sticky or dusty products need different fillers.
- Stainless steel grade on food-contact parts and ease of cleaning.
- The film type, width and reel size, and the pouch style and size range.
- Date coding and any print or registration mark requirements.
- The speed you need in packs per minute at your fill weight, not the maximum on the brochure.
How do you test filling accuracy?
Ask the maker to run your product or a close substitute, weigh a sample of packs and give you the average and spread. Packaging machine filling accuracy explains how to read the figures and what to put in the contract.
Insist on a video of the run, or attend it. A machine tuned on easy material for a demonstration may behave differently on yours.
What about electronics, spares and service?
Ask which PLC, touchscreen, drives and sensors are fitted and whether they are sold in your country. A machine that depends on parts you cannot buy locally will stop for weeks. Agree a spares kit, commissioning and operator training in the order, and write them in using the packaging machine specification.
Cost depends on speed, number of heads, controls, stainless content and options, so a real quote comes from a specification.
How do you agree acceptance before shipment?
Write an acceptance test into the order. It should name the product, pack size, speed and the tolerance on pack weight, and say how many packs will be weighed and how many consecutive minutes the machine must run without a stoppage.
Run the test at the factory before shipping, and again at your site after commissioning. Keep the first approved packs as a reference for seal strength, print position and appearance.
For food, ask which seal and film combinations the maker has already run. A machine proven on one laminate may need new settings on another. Document the film structure you plan to use, and ask the maker to run it during the trial.
Plan the changeover too. If you pack several sizes, ask how long a change takes, which parts must be swapped, and whether the machine needs a skilled technician. A cheap machine that takes half a day to change size can cost more in lost production than a better one.
