Import duties on Indian tiles in the Gulf, US and EU

Your total duty is the normal customs tariff plus any trade remedy. Here is how the two layers stack in the Gulf, the US and the EU, as of October 2026.

The duty on Indian tiles has two layers: the normal customs duty for the HS code, and any trade remedy duty for the exporter. In the Gulf, the US and the EU, both layers apply as of October 2026, and some markets add further charges on top.

This article sets out what we could confirm from official sources. Tariffs change often, so treat every figure as a starting point and confirm the total with your customs broker before you order.

Start with the right HS code

Ceramic tiles fall under HS heading 6907. The subheading depends on water absorption: 6907.21 covers tiles absorbing 0.5% or less, which includes porcelain and Indian vitrified tiles. 6907.22 covers more than 0.5% up to 10%, and 6907.23 covers more than 10%, which includes most wall tiles. Sanitaryware falls under 6910.

Get the water absorption figure from an accredited lab report, not the catalogue. A wrong code can mean the wrong duty and a penalty. If you are unsure which body you are buying, see ceramic, porcelain and vitrified tiles compared.

United States

The USITC Harmonized Tariff Schedule sets a general rate for each 6907 subheading. As of October 2026, the general rate is either 8.5% or 10%, depending on the exact line: glazed or unglazed, tile size, and tiles per square metre. India is not among the countries listed for a special rate on these lines, so the general rate applies.

On top of that comes the countervailing duty on ceramic tile from India: 3.18% for most exporters, with company-specific rates for the two examined exporters. That rate is under challenge at the US Court of International Trade.

Further US tariffs on Indian goods, under Chapter 99 of the HTS, have changed several times since 2025. Ask your broker for the current position from the HTS and CBP guidance on the day you plan to ship.

European Union

Every EU member state applies the same customs tariff, and the normal rate for each code is shown in the TARIC database. Look up the ten-digit code with India as the origin and the expected import date, because rates can change between the order and arrival.

TARIC will also show the anti-dumping measure under Implementing Regulation (EU) 2023/265. Indian exporters pay between 6.7% and 8.7%, depending on the company. Import VAT is charged on top at the rate of the member state where the goods are released.

Gulf states

The six GCC states share a common external tariff, but each publishes its own schedule and national exceptions exist. Check the rate for your 6907 subheading in your country's official tariff, or ask your broker, rather than relying on a general figure.

On top of that, the GCC anti-dumping duty on ceramic and porcelain tiles from India has applied since June 2020 and was extended in 2026. Rates depend on the exporter. Saudi Arabia also requires SASO and SABER conformity certification for tiles, and VAT applies at import in the states that levy it.

Putting the figure together

  • Confirm the HS code from the lab report's water absorption result.
  • Look up the normal duty for that code in your official tariff schedule.
  • Add the trade remedy rate for the exact exporter named on the invoice.
  • Add any national surcharges, import VAT and port charges your broker lists.
  • Agree the Incoterm with the factory so you know who pays what up to your port.

We send your broker the HS code, lab report and exporter details for every order, so the duty can be checked before you commit. For the list of markets with trade remedies, see which countries have anti-dumping duties on Indian tiles. To start, book a free sourcing review.
