Yes, most Rajkot workshops can strip old plating and replate brass or copper pieces, and replace broken clasps, hooks and jump rings. In practice, repair is easy while goods are still in India and hard once they have been exported, because return freight, customs and paperwork usually cost more than the pieces.
So the useful question is not whether a factory can repair, but how you catch problems before shipment and what you agree for faults found after.
What can and cannot be repaired
- Faded or patchy plating on brass or copper: usually can be stripped, polished and replated.
- Broken findings such as clasps, hooks, posts and jump rings: easy to replace.
- Loose or missing stones in prong or bezel settings: usually fixable.
- Glued stones in kundan or AD pieces: may be damaged by stripping and replating, so the stones are often reset.
- Zinc alloy pieces: harder to replate well, so often replaced instead.
- Bent or cracked castings: usually replaced, not repaired.
Repair before shipment
The best time for rework is after inspection and before packing. If the inspection finds uneven plating or loose stones, the maker can rework the faulty pieces within days, at its own cost if the order terms say so. That is far cheaper for everyone than a claim later.
Write rework into your purchase order: the maker reworks or replaces defective pieces found at pre-shipment inspection, at no charge and without delaying the agreed ship date. See our purchase order checklist.
Faults found after arrival
Sending small quantities back to India for repair involves export from your country, re-import into India and export again. Customs may treat the return as a new import unless the paperwork is done carefully, and couriers charge by weight and value.
Most buyers agree one of these instead: a credit note against the next order, free replacement pieces sent with the next shipment, or a small allowance of extra pieces in every order to cover defects.
What this means for a buyer
Plan for rework in India and replacement after arrival, and write both into the order terms. Creston & Co works for buyers only, for a fixed fee agreed in writing: we inspect before packing, have samples tested at NABL-accredited labs, follow rework through and supervise packing.
