The pendant styles that export steadily are small CZ solitaires and halos, initial and name pendants, coin and medallion pendants, religious and protective symbols, hearts and nature motifs, and Indian-style pendant sets with matching earrings. Rajkot workshops make all of these in brass or alloy with gold, rose gold or rhodium plating.
Pendants are a good entry product. They are light, need no sizing, ship well and can be sold alone or on a chain.
Styles by customer
- Fashion and online buyers: minimal pendants such as small stones, bars, coins, hearts and initials on fine chains, often for layering.
- Gift shops: zodiac signs, birthstones, initials and message pendants packed on cards or in boxes.
- Diaspora shops: Om, Ganesh and Lakshmi pendants, Ayatul Kursi and Allah pendants, evil eye pendants, and Indian pendant sets with earrings.
- Gulf and African buyers: often larger, bolder gold-tone pendants and coins, but check your own customers' preferences.
Sold with or without a chain
Decide whether you want the pendant alone or with a chain. A chain adds cost and weight but makes a ready-to-wear product. If you add one, specify the chain type, thickness, length and clasp, and make sure the bail (the loop the chain passes through) is large enough for the chain you choose. See chain types for the options.
Quality points
- The bail is soldered firmly and does not pull open.
- Stones are set straight and the pendant hangs facing forwards.
- Plating covers the back of the pendant evenly.
- Edges are smooth with no casting marks or sharp burrs.
- Religious motifs and text are correct, which matters a great deal to customers.
