Gujarat makes a wide range of auto components, from rough castings and forgings to finished machined parts, fasteners, bearings and brass fittings. Most export work comes from Rajkot, Ahmedabad, the Sanand area and Jamnagar, and much of it goes into the replacement market rather than new vehicles.
The state is not one auto cluster. It is several engineering towns, each with its own strengths, that together can supply most metal parts a vehicle or tractor needs.
Where each type of part comes from
- Rajkot supplies grey iron and SG iron castings, machined engine and transmission parts, cylinder liners, pistons, gears, bearings and many small turned parts.
- Ahmedabad and the Sanand area supply sheet-metal pressings, plastic parts, wiring items, forgings and assemblies, often for vehicle plants in the state.
- Jamnagar supplies brass and other turned components, such as fittings, inserts, terminals and sensor bodies.
- Vadodara and the wider state supply forgings, fasteners, hydraulic items and heavier engineering parts for commercial vehicles and off-road machines.
Typical product families
Buyers usually source these families from Gujarat. The list is a guide to what is common, not a full catalogue.
- Engine parts such as cylinder liners, pistons, valve guides, flywheels and pulleys.
- Brake and suspension parts such as brake drums, discs, calipers, brackets and hubs.
- Transmission and driveline parts such as gears, shafts, couplings and yokes.
- Hardware such as bolts, nuts, studs, washers, clips and brackets.
- Tractor and agricultural vehicle parts, where Gujarat suppliers are especially strong.
- Hydraulic parts such as cylinders, fittings and hose ends, covered in hydraulic parts made in Gujarat.
OEM work and aftermarket work
Some Gujarat suppliers make parts for vehicle makers to tight drawings and audited systems. Many more make replacement parts for the aftermarket, where the drawing often comes from a sample. The two kinds of supplier work very differently, as OEM and aftermarket parts explains.
If you need parts for a vehicle maker or a tier-one supplier, look for a plant that already works under IATF 16949 and can make a PPAP submission. If you sell spare parts, a well-run ISO 9001 plant with good gauges and inspection may be enough.
What to check before you choose
Many suppliers send a long product list. That list often includes parts they buy from other workshops. Ask which operations they do in-house: casting, forging, machining, heat treatment, plating and inspection. Then confirm it at the plant.
Also ask for a recent sample of a part close to yours, with a dimensional report. A supplier who makes cast brake drums well may still struggle with a hardened gear.

We find and audit Gujarat manufacturers that already make parts like yours, then check samples and supervise production. See the industries we source, or book a free sourcing review.
