What bearings are made in Rajkot?

Rajkot makes ball and roller bearings, mostly in standard series for automotive, agricultural and industrial replacement use, plus bearing rings and housings.

Rajkot makes mainly standard-series ball and roller bearings for the replacement market, together with bearing rings, rollers, cages and housings. The main buyers are automotive, tractor, pump, motor and general industrial users.

The town is best known for medium-precision bearings at volume. Very high-precision spindle bearings are less common, and you should test any claim of that grade carefully.

Common bearing types

  • Deep groove ball bearings in common metric series, open, shielded or sealed.
  • Tapered roller bearings for wheel hubs, axles and gearboxes.
  • Cylindrical roller bearings for motors, pumps and gearboxes.
  • Spherical roller bearings for heavier industrial loads, from some plants.
  • Needle roller bearings and thrust bearings for automotive and tractor use.
  • Pillow block and flange units, where a bearing sits in a cast iron housing.
  • Clutch release bearings and wheel hub units for the aftermarket.

How a bearing plant is set up

Most plants buy bearing steel bars or tubes, then forge or turn the rings. The rings are hardened, ground and honed. Balls and rollers are often bought from specialist makers. The plant then assembles, washes, greases and packs the bearings.

Some plants do all of this in-house. Others buy finished rings and only assemble. Ask which steps happen on site, because heat treatment and grinding decide most of the quality.

Look at the grinding shop during your visit. Clean coolant, controlled temperature and in-process gauging on each machine are good signs. Rings stacked on the floor and gauges with no calibration labels are poor signs.

Quality points to check

  • Steel grade, usually a high-carbon chromium bearing steel, with a mill certificate.
  • Hardness and microstructure after heat treatment, checked on each batch.
  • Tolerance class, noise and vibration levels, as explained in bearing standards and tolerance classes.
  • Radial internal clearance, such as C3, where your application needs it.
  • Seal and grease type, and fill quantity.
  • Marking and packaging that do not copy another maker's brand.

Common risks

The biggest risk in the bearing trade is counterfeit branding. Never buy bearings marked with a famous brand from a supplier that is not that brand's authorised source. Buy under your own brand or plain, and check markings on arrival.

Ask the supplier for a written statement that its markings and packaging are its own or yours. Keep that statement with your purchase records.

The second risk is quality drift. The first lot may use good steel and careful grinding, then later lots slip. Lot testing of hardness, dimensions and noise guards against this, as described in why quality drops after the first container.

Next step

We find Rajkot bearing makers that do their own heat treatment and grinding, then have lots tested before shipment. Book a free sourcing review to discuss your bearing range.
