Private label pickles, ready to cook mixes and snacks are all made in India by food plants that pack under a buyer's brand. Gujarat has many such plants for snacks and mixes, and edible and castor oil are packed by crushers and refiners. The checks differ by product, because each has a different risk: oil and acidity in pickles, moisture in mixes, rancidity in snacks and peanuts, and traceability in oil.
Private label pickles and ready to cook mixes
Pickle quality depends on acidity, salt level and the preservative system, so ask for the recipe parameters and the shelf life the plant has actually tested. Preservative rules differ by destination, covered in which preservatives are allowed in pickles in the UK, EU and US.
Ready to cook mixes are dry blends, so moisture, packing film and allergen control matter most. Many contain wheat, pulses or mustard, which must be declared. See Indian factories that make private label pickles and snacks.
Private label snacks and peanut butter
Namkeen and fried snacks go stale through oxidation of the frying oil. Ask which oil is used, how often it is changed, and what the pack is flushed with. Barrier film and nitrogen flushing matter more than the print.
Private label peanut butter starts with the peanut. Aflatoxin is the main safety concern, and limits differ by market, as explained in aflatoxin limits for peanuts in the EU, US and Middle East. Ask for aflatoxin results on the raw peanut lot as well as on the finished spread. Also agree the oil separation you will accept, the roast level and whether sugar or salt is added.
Private label edible oil and castor oil
Edible oil can be packed in retail bottles, tins or bulk under your name. The specification should state the oil type, refining method, free fatty acid level and the test certificate you require for each batch. Our guide to Indian suppliers that pack edible oil under a buyer's brand covers formats.
Castor oil is sold in grades such as first special grade and in cold-pressed cosmetic grades. A castor oil private label order needs a clear statement of the grade, the intended use and the testing method. Pharmaceutical use is outside what we advise on.
Whatever the product, ask for a signed specification, a sample from the production line and a retained sample from every batch. Private label food is judged on consistency, so the second batch must match the first.
Cost and minimum drivers
We do not give prices. The main drivers are raw material, the pack format, how many printed items you need, and the testing you specify. Minimums are usually set by pack runs, and by the batch size of the cooker, fryer or press. Plan for packaging lead time as well as production time.
Allow for ordering printed film, jars or labels weeks before production can start. Late packaging is the most common reason a private label order ships behind schedule, and it is easy to avoid by agreeing the artwork and the supplier of the pack at the start.
